For Immediate Release Contact: Douglas: douglas@douglastaurel.com, 917 734 4570

I am extremely excited to be honoring veterans in Austin, Texas, this coming Memorial Day Weekend with my Off-Broadway solo show The American Soldier.   My main performance is May 25th, 26th and 27th at Emma S. Barrientos Mexican Arts Center, however I am also performing for about 80 veterans from WWII and Vietnam in the Atria at the Arboretum retirement home.

I am a native Texan living in New York (18 years now) have been performing and touring my one man show The American Soldier for three years now.  I always travel with my family and my wife and I have chosen to make the travels of my show a family adventure and show our kids the fabric of America while creating so amazing memories together.  I have had the privileges to perform in many amazing American cities and small towns that I would have never chosen to go if it wasn’t for my the show.

My show is based on actual letters collected from veterans and their family members from the American Revolution all the way through our current conflicts in Afghanistan. It explores the bravery of our veterans in combat and the difficulties our veterans with PTSD and their families face on a daily basis when they try to come back home.   I recently performed Off BroadwayThe Kennedy Center,  it was nominated for an Amnesty International Award,  earned 4 stars and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and will be performing at the Library of Congress in the fall.

"This is a true work of passion and I deeply hope that audiences will go away with a deeper appreciation of the tremendous sacrifice our servicemen and servicewomen, and their families, have made for our country.  I feel that the intense sacrifices that veterans and their families have made can never have enough awareness..”

"Onstage Taurel commits totally to his characters…flawlessly and powerful”

“Taurel gives each voice a sensitive, moving presence…he is utterly believable”

This Memorial weekend, in 55-minutes, enhanced by an interplay of sound and lights, Taurel enters into the personas of 14 veterans and their family members, telling their story of courage and sacrifice. THE AMERICAN SOLDIER exposes their flaws and their scars with both darkness and humor, and honors their incredible commitment for our freedoms. THE AMERICAN SOLDIER is not simply a play, but a journey through the American story.

Taurel's screen credits include playing tough and edgy characters in television programs including Mr. Robot, Nurse Jackie, Damages, The Americans, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods,Believe, NYC 22, and The Following. Film credits include a supporting role in the feature film The Cobbler, directed by Oscar nominated Tom McCarthy and starring Dustin Hoffman.

The play is directed by Padraic Lillis who was recently named to the Indie Theater Hall of Fame and Indie Theater Person of the Year in New York.
